Babo Violent 2

Babo Violent 2 is a very simple 3D isometric view free action shooter. You can play as either Blue or Red team, and you fight against each other in a maze-like levels. Babo Violent 2 is well suited to multiplayer games, and can be played online. There are plenty of different weapons around the maze that can be picked up, as well as grenades.

Counter-Strike 2D is a fan-made 2D version of the popular multiplayer game Counter-Strike. Just like its 3D counterpart, there are different objectives for each team. If you play as a terrorist you have to plant a bomb at a given position. If you are playing as a counter-terrorist you will try to defend the same objective point. The more people you kill the more money you get to buy weapons. CS2D comes with a user-friendly map editor and features 3D sound.

Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto is a 2D top-down view game in which you are a gangster doing your job. This game has 3 large cities and each city has 2 sets of missions. GTA has free-roaming game play, allowing you to have control over how you play the game. There are plenty of missions to help you achive the target amount of points. If you're not into missions GTA allows you to sell stolen cars, mow down gang members and even civilians. The only thing stopping you is the police (and possibly the odd gangster).

GTA2

GTA2 is a sequel to Grand Theft Auto. Both of these games are now available free for download from Rockstar's website. In the GTA series you play as a gangster doing dirty jobs over 3 huge cities. The freedom in this game lets you do the jobs and earn your money quick or wreck havoc with big guns and fast cars. There are rival gangs which you can gain respect and do missions for. The more one gang likes you, the more that gang's rivals will hate you. There are also the police who may try to stop your missions; the more disturbances you cause, the more police will come after you. When the target amount of money is reached you can proceed to the next city.

GunZ The Duel

GunZ The Duel is a third-person online action shooting game that allows players to perform gravity-defying moves. The variety of weapons, clothes and accessories lets you to be a bit more personal than in other shooters, these can be applied to your chosen character model from the diverse range. There are 12 slots in total for customisation. The range of weapons is quite large with pistols, rifles, twin guns, machine guns and more.

N

N is a puzzle/action platformer in which you are a ninja. It's a fast pace game with flowing physics, tactical game play and clever level design. There are 100 episodes each with 5 unique rooms that have to be beaten within a time limit, which can be increased by collecting gold. A series of switches have to be pressed to open the door to the next room, while you avoid guards, lasers and tackle the terrain. When a set of 10 episodes have been completed you unlock a ‘flavour’, which changes the ninja's colour. The ultimate goal is to beat all 500 rooms.

Secret Maryo Chronicles

Secret Maryo Chronicles is a two-dimensional platform game in the same style as the Super Mario World series. You play as Maryo who has several different states of size and power. There are many levels to play through, as well as multiple overworlds, much like the map view in Super Mario World.This platformer can be customised easily. Backgrounds and sprites can be inserted into the game. You can insert enemies, change the starting position, insert active sprites and a whole lot more.

Soldat

OK, so Soldat isn't quite freeware exactly, but it is popular within the freeware community and has most options avaliable for free. Soldat is a platform-view shooter that has fast-paced gameplay and many game modes and maps to play on. Multiplayer can be played on the internet or over LAN. There is also a single player mode with bots. You can equip your soldier with a weapon of choice, and each player has grenades and jet boots.

Woah, this game is awesome. Admittedly, some will find it easy to finish quickly, but if it appeals then it has excellent replay value. It is a rhythm/ action game, in which you're character dodges enemies while attacking them by pressing certain keys in time with the music. The style of this game is very good, the graphics are blurry and pulse in time with the music, and each stage has poetry-esque text displayed at the end of levels.

Wild Metal Country is a 3D third-person action game in which your job is to defeat tank-like machines on 3 different planets in the Tehric system. There are 8 different types of missiles and 4 types of mines. The controls are quite unique, each of the tracks on the tank are controlled independently and the camera follows in the direction of the turret. Everything is controlled from the keyboard, so it is suitable for laptop users.
