Abiword
AbiWord is a word processing program similar to Microsoft Word. It is suitable for typing papers, letters, reports, memos and any other documents. The program has an attractive, professional interface and all the features you need. In addition, it offers various plug-ins that can be added to further enhance the functionality. Currently available plug-ins include several imaging tools, encyclopedia, Babelfish translation, scripting support and various others. AbiWord comes with a built-in spell checker, auto-text macros, save as web page option and much more.
FreeMind
FreeMind is a mind mapping application. A mind map is a diagram that records concepts and the assosiations between them. It can be used to help you to visualize ideas, projects, concepts, brainstorm, research or any other task that can benefit from a structured overview. Finished mind maps can be exported as an HTML document, an images file or other formats.
GanttProject
GanttProject is a project management program for creating a project schedule by means of Gantt charts and resource load charts. A Gantt chart is a popular type of bar chart that illustrates a project schedule. GanttProject can break down your project into a tree of tasks and assign human resources that have to work on each task. You can also establish dependencies between tasks. This is a free alternative to Microsoft Project.

GnuCash is an accounting application. It implements a double-entry bookkeeping system, and has features for personal and small business accounting, including investment portfolios, reports, graphs, financial calculations, scheduled transactions and more.
Open Workbench
Open Workbench is a project management software, similar to Microsoft Project. Open Workbench lets project managers create work breakdown structures (WBS) with tasks and milestones, set baselines, assign resources to tasks, schedule project plans with dependencies, adjust the schedule as actual work is recorded, link master and subprojects and conduct earned value analysis.

OpenOffice.org is an office suite very similar to Microsoft Office. OpenOffice.org is a collection of applications that offer many features. Applications include Writer, a word processor featuring spell-checking and WYSIWYG web page editing, Calc, a spreadsheet program similar to Excel, Impress, a PowerPoint alternative, Draw, a vector graphics editor, and more.
PDFCreator
PDFCreator lets you create PDFs from any program that is able to print. Once installed, it allows the user to select PDFCreator as their printer, allowing almost any application to make PDF files, including Microsoft Word or freeware applications such as OpenOffice.org or AbiWord. PDFCreator allows the user to disable printing, copying of text or images and modifying the PDF file.
Phrase Express
Phrase Express is a text macro utility which organizes & pastes all your frequently used phrases into any application with a single mouse click, a keyboard shortcut or a text macro command. Phrase Express can also lock the Caps Lock key if you choose. This program is great for emails templates, signatures, addresses, etc. It can automatically expand abbreviations in some programs and also has a spell checker. This tool is very useful for anyone who regulary writes emails and has the potential to save a lot of time.
The Font Thing
The Font Thing is a font organizing program. Having a bazillion fonts installed may seem pretty cool, but having lots of installed fonts makes your computer slower, and it can be hard to find the font that you want. The Font Thing has font-management functions that let you install, uninstall, print, copy, or delete numerous fonts at once, and can load fonts temporarily for use without installing them. You can browse installed and uninstalled TrueType fonts, view sample text, get detailed font information, filter them according to type (serif, sans serif, etc.), and group them into collections. Highly recommended for graphic designers.
