It uses a plugin system for video and audio. The Rice Video Plugin can be used to replace a ROMs textures with external images, which can greatly improve the graphical appearance of certain games.

pSX is an easy to use PlayStation emulator which doesn't attempt to enhance graphics. Because of this, games look they do on the original PlayStation. Some games work better in pSX compared to ePSXe, and some work worse. This is interesting to note because there are times which pSX can come is useful if you are an ePSXe user, for example for loading a game in pSX, continuing through an area which cause ePSXe to crash, and saving the game which can then be loaded back into ePSXe.

You may prefer the 1.80 beta, VBA-M, VBA Smooth, or some of the other unoffical VBA versions.
