Freeware Emulation Apps
DOSBox
DOSBox is a emulator DOS emulator to play DOS games on Windows XP and many other systems that do not normally support DOS programs. It features graphics emulation, sound emulation and modem emulation over TCP/IP, allowing for modem games to be played over the internet.
ePSXe
ePSXe is an emulator of the PlayStation video game console. ePSXe can run PlayStation games from CD or many types of CD image files from the user's hard drive. ePSXe requires the use of plugins to emulate GPU, SPU, and CD drive functions. SCPHBIOSES will also be needed.
ePSXeCutor
ePSXeCutor is an easy to use front end for ePSXe. This program allows you to use different controller plugins, and have as many configurations as you like, so you could have different controls/settings/memory card for each game. Configurations can be exported and imported.
Kega Fusion
Kega Fusion is an emulator for many Sega consoles, specifically the Sega Mega Drive, Genesis, Mega-CD, 32X, Master System, SG-1000 and SC-3000. It is highly compatible and is one of the most accurate Sega emulators. Kega Fusion supports multiplayer over the internet or LAN.
Nestopia
Nestopia is a NES/Famicom (Nintendo Entertainment System) emulator. It is highly compatible and you can play multiplayer over the internet through the Kaillera network.
nullDC
nullDC is a new Sega Dreamcast emulator. It is already one of the most compatible DC emulators around. There are other emulators which have been around for longer, such as Chankast EX however nullDC is already looking good.
Project64
Project64 is an emulator for the Nintendo 64 console. It can run the majority of N64 games with little problem, and runs at a good speed on most modern computers. It uses a plugin system for video and audio. The Rice Video Plugin can be used to replace a ROMs textures with external images, which can greatly improve the graphical appearance of certain games.
pSX
pSX is an easy to use PlayStation emulator which doesn't attempt to enhance graphics. Because of this, games look they do on the original PlayStation. Some games work better in pSX compared to ePSXe, and some work worse. This is interesting to note because there are times which pSX can come is useful if you are an ePSXe user, for example for loading a game in pSX, continuing through an area which cause ePSXe to crash, and saving the game which can then be loaded back into ePSXe.

This software emulates a computer, and you can install and use operating systems virtually.
VisualBoyAdvance
VisualBoyAdvance (also known as "VBA") is an open source emulator for Game Boy, Super Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance handheld game consoles. It can run virtually any ROM flawlessly and has cheat support. It almost has filters for smoothing the graphics and other advanced options. You may prefer the 1.80 beta, VBA-M, VBA Smooth, or some of the other unoffical VBA versions.
ZSNES
ZSNES is an emulator for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and Super Famicom video game systems. ZSNES has the ability to "save" the game at any point by recording the game state, support for rewinding in-game and graphics smoothing.
